Kids and their parents will get a special treat this Halloween when seniors at Syverson Rehab and Health will be handing out candy. The special event has been going on for decades and coincides with the downtown trick or treating program in Eau Claire.

“It’s such a special opportunity for the staff and our friends and neighbors who live here. Halloween is very special because we all remember trick or treating. Seeing all the excited kids helps bring back a lot of fond memories for our residents,” said Administrator Tonya Lisowski.

The children will be given treats and will have the opportunity to play some games with the residents. But the biggest treat may be for the seniors. Many of them remember when their own children were getting dressed up to go out in search of candy. Experts say these kinds of events are also important to seniors who are battling dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

Lisowski added, “It means so much to our residents at Syverson Rehab and Health to help provide a fun and safe environment for the kids to celebrate Halloween.”
