Local Seniors Celebrate Solar Eclipse As Seen in the Leader Telegram

Posted 8/22/2017

On Monday, August 21, 2017 North America was treated to a sight that hasn’t been witnessed in almost a century!  A total solar eclipse happened, allowing anyone within its path of totality to watch the moon completely cover the sun.  The residents at Willowbrook Assisted Living have many fun events planned to celebrate this extremely rare natural phenomenon as seen in the Leader Telegram

“Seeing this once in a life time event is something our residents are excited about, and some of them have been waiting 90 plus years,” Husby says.

According to Grace Willowbrook Assisted Living Director Peggy Husby, the excitement about the solar eclipse is not lost on those who were born after the last total eclipse that traveled across the United States in 1918.  The eclipse party at Grace Willowbrook Assisted Living included fun activities such as making eclipse cookies at 10 a.m., live streaming the NASA coverage all morning, and venturing outside to watch it in person with eclipse glasses.

“Our residents enjoy being part of special events. And this astronomical party is one they won’t soon forget,” said Husby.
